Habitat for Humanity
History
In partnership
with Habitat for Humanity, Concord United Methodist Church members have built
nine houses since 1999. Each year, the United Methodist
Men host a golf tournament in August to raise money to help pay for the
cost of sponsoring our Habitat home for the following year.

Habitat for Humanity Project 2008 - 1 Reason, 10 Years
Loudon County Habitat for Humanity
This
year's partner family is Renea (reh -NAY) Jackson and her 4 year-old
daughter, Nicia. Renea works at Wal-Mart in Lenoir City, usually the 4 PM
shift, so she will be available to help build her house. Renea helped
Loudon County HFH build the Women Build house in Loudon last fall and has
learned a lot about construction. She was an eager learner and enjoyed
working with the other volunteers and the other Habitat women. As we
volunteer to work on the house construction or behind the scenes to support
the construction, imagine the future we are building for Renea and Nicia.
Our 2008 project began on April 5th and will continue until the dedication date of June 21st. There are many opportunities for involvement. To volunteer, please contact Chuck Parmele at 414-4463 or parmelecc@aol.com, Grace Ingram at 693-6021 or gaingram@aol.com, or Kelly Forrest at 690-3714 or kns30030@yahoo.com. Upcoming opportunities include 4/7 & 8 floor trusses and the subfloor, the Wall Blitz day on 4/12 and during the week of 4/14 – 4/19 we will be working on the porch and roof. On Saturday, 4/12 there will be two shifts you can sign up for, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We are also looking for volunteers on the steering committee. The positions of Family Liaison and Job Site Hospitality Coordinator are still available. Please prayerfully consider joining this wonderful effort as we secure a future for Renea and Nicia.
Progress Update & News
|
IMPORTANT Even though we appreciate your willingness to volunteer and provide your talents, we remind you please not just to show up at the building site without having scheduled your volunteer time through Chuck Parmele, Grace Ingram, or Kelly Forrest. We ask this only because it is Habitat for Humanity’s policy to avoid having idle people on their sites. See below for the ways to sign up to volunteer. Thank you for your consideration. |
Volunteers in the final two weeks of work will be completing the interior and doing final cleaning on the inside of the house, getting it “move-in ready.” See the bulletin board outside of the Fellowship Hall for updated pictures of this soon-to-be home. The structure at 143 Hope Way in the Hope Haven Subdivision is almost finished and will soon be home for Renea Jackson and four-year-old Nicia.
During the coming week, we will be doing final interior trim work, rehanging doors, going over the punch list, and cleaning. Try to figure out how you can be a part of this build – 1 Reason, 10 Years – and come help clean up and add your name to the list of folks who have helped to build another home. See below for instructions on how to add your name to the schedule of volunteers.
Also, remember the dedication date – Saturday, June 21, 2008! It will be a special day, so plan to join in the celebration!
How Can I Help?
There are three ways you can register to participate:
1.) Fill out the registration form in the notebook on the table
below the Habitat bulletin board. The Habitat board is outside the
Fellowship Hall.
2.) E-mail Chuck Parmele at
parmelecc@aol.com, Grace Ingram at
Gaingram@aol.com or Kelly Forrest at
kns30030@yahoo.com.
3.) Telephone Chuck Parmele at 414-4463, Grace Ingram at 693-6021
or Kelly Forrest at 690-3714.
If your talents lend themselves toward organization and leadership
rather than swinging a hammer or brushing on paint you can still be
a part of this year's build. Steering Committee positions are still
available. Contact Chuck Parmele for more details.
